The nearing opaque saturation of a late afternoon downpour unsettled an animal when the rumble of thunder shook the window panes and other loose materials of construction in the well built home. Brisk flowing sand traced new paths around the new seasonal growth of weed from a weeklong wet spell. Then the hail began. The animal asked, did god do that. The father answered, no, holding back the floodwaters still not able to engage what the animal means by god. When it was over, a rainbow hung through clouds and leaves in the garden had been ripped and pierced.
